O SZS/About

Slovenian Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey was founded in 2001. The club now has 40 members and participation extends across Slovenia. Following UNESCO recognition of falconry, this hunting art became recognised in law also in Slovenia.

As in most European countries, hunting of small game is permitted to falconers. The Grey Partridge is much loved by falconers, as a bird whose call indicates healthy landscapes, as an occasional traditional quarry for their hawks, and as something special to eat. Therefore, falconers across the whole of Europe are making a special effort, by providing the most recent research for conserving and restoring this species, in all appropriate European languages. As in Slovenia, they are also working in each country with other hunters, especially those organised through the Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation in Europe (FACE).

Sokolarstvo in UNESCO

The SZS is a non-governmental nature conservation organization. It was established with the purpose of studying and protecting birds of prey. The SZS connects regional falconer societies and represents the common interests of membership, educates and directs falconers, carries out programs for the conservation of birds of prey, participates in the preparation of legal regulations, and represents falconry at home and abroad.

Falconry and UNESCO

In 2010, Falconry was recognized as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. This reflects on the work IAF recorded in the years that falconers contribute to innovative solutions to conserve birds's of prey and protect their natural habitat.
